The couple

Our Love Story

In May 2020, during a time when the world felt a little darker, a sunny day in Amsterdam turned into the backdrop of our love story. With cafes and restaurants closed due to COVID, our first date was unconventional but perfect—a charming bench by the canal, the sun shining down, and a delightful surprise of supermarket beer tasting from Huub, who knew that Gisela worked at a beer company.

From the moment Gisela spotted Huub across the street, she was drawn in by his style, adventurous spirit, and silly sense of humor. For Huub, Gisela’s vibrant energy and beauty were impossible to ignore. Little did we know, this meeting would spark a connection that would flourish amidst the challenges of a pandemic.

As we navigated our new relationship, we had to get creative. With dining options limited, we spent countless hours walking through Vondelpark, running on quiet streets, and working out in the living room. Huub would surprise Gisela with breakfast while she worked from home, and he’d leave small treats like flowers and heated pillows at her door—thoughtful gestures that warmed her heart.

Our love for cooking together became a joyful escape. From planning grocery lists to exploring new restaurants, we found harmony in our different styles. Gisela, the structured Brazilian who adored snowboarding and discounts, paired beautifully with Huub, the Dutch who loved sharing food and relaxing at the beach.

Our journey has taught us that Brazilians and Dutch make a perfect match; we balance each other wonderfully. Together, we’ve built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, and we can’t wait to celebrate our next chapter as we say “I do.”

Beaches

Most populars: Arpoador, Ipanema, Leblon

Most beautiful: Barra, Joatinga, Prainha, Grumari

Obs.:

  • You can rent umbrella (up to R$20) and chairs (up to R$10) at the beach. You pay when you leave the beach. But always ask the price before you get one.
  • Take turns to have a swim so your stuff is never alone or ask someone near to take a look at your stuff.
  • Try Biscoito Globo and Matte Leão (black ice tea). There's guys walking allover the beach carrying gallons of Matte and packs of Globo.

Others

- Never carry too much money with you. R$200,00 is fine. Creditcards (like revolut) are accepted almost everywhere!

- Never walk with your phone in sight and more important; don't wear any jewellery or (expensive) watches!

- Always mind your surroundings, especially after sunset.

- Almost nobody speaks english, especially at the beach, but people are very friendly and try to help.

- Service sucks. The waiter never looks at you, keep track on what you order. Just relax and go with it. :)
